Practical Scrappers - Smash Journal Feature

Today at Practical Scrappers I have the opportunity to feature my "Smash Journal", so I thought I would share the post with all of you too!

Happy Friday Everyone! It's Practical Scrapper Lynn here this morning and I wanted to share one of my latest projects with you. I was out one day and decided to buy a "Smash Journal". Not sure what to do with it, I brought it home. Let me tell you....this is one fun project! The possibilities are endless. It's a great way to use up all those little scraps of paper, those stamps that have been hiding in the box, the little mementos that have been tucked away. I now have a basket on my desk full of little bits and pieces to use for my journal. Here is an example of a few pages that I've done.

Here is the Journal when I bought it
This is what I did with the cover. Too much fun! I used embellishments that have been hidden away for years.
I had some left over Graphic 45 from a layout, so I did the cover page with it.
This is a page about my daughter. She wrote the little green sticky note and left it on my desk one day. That is how this page started.
A page about my son. Don't forget to bring out the masks and stencils.
I love pigs so I thought I would print out a contact sheet of some of my favorite photos and do a page.
These next two are a memory page for my little Tessa. A great way to use up those pieces from a 6x6 paper pack!
The possibilities are endless. I love doing this because I feel it just lets your creativity run wild. Anything goes! So if you are "Smashing", have fun, and if your thinking about getting one..take the step..you will be amazed at what you can do with it! Enjoy your day everyone, and thank you for letting me share my journal with you.

Misting & Inking with Lynn

This is my showcase day at Practical Scrappers. It gives everyone on the design team a chance to show some of their work or share a technique! So here is what I've done.....

Good Morning Everyone! It's Practical Scrapper Lynn this morning to show you a few projects that I've used some inking and misting techniques on. I find ink really adds definition to your patterned paper or cardstock. I always think it makes a layout "pop" off the page. With a little distressing and ink, you have a vintage page in no time. Misting is another fun thing I love to do. Using stencils or masks you can add a little touch of something to your background. There are so many different products on the market today to try.  So go ahead and have some fun!

On this layout I used flower stencil and my Tattered Angels Glimmer Mist. I started with just a little corner to add a "little something" and before I knew it, the whole background was done!

For this layout I again misted some flowers on my winter layout. Just a touch here and there added some color. I distressed and inked my layers and ribbon for that little bit of "shabby"

For this one I used my ink pad and a dauber to do a chicken wire background. I didn't want to spray all of my paper, so I just used my Tim Holtz Distress Ink and daubed all the little hexagons for a softer look. By the end of the day I'm usually covered in ink, sparkles and some stickers, but what I've learned is...Baby Wipes are the perfect thing to clean up with!!
So off I go to play with my sprays, so I hope you all have a Scrap Happy Day!

I'm So Lucky To Have You In My Life

Good Morning, Good Morning...(my attempt at singing) lol. Today at Practical Scrappers we are featuring Birthday Layouts! The design team is just so talented. They are all unique and such a beautiful group of women. I also took inspiration from the amazing sketches at Scrapfriends. For my layout I did a few photos of my sister and myself on our birthday. We have birthdays three days apart, but we always say we are twins, lol. We are the best of friends. My sister and I call each other every morning to talk about what's new on the blog feed, what we are scrapping, and what's new since last night's coffee!! We live really close together so we get to see alot of each other. Our kids are more like siblings than cousins and we are always celebrating something, lol. So Sis...this one's for you! Love ya, miss ya, so CALL ME!!!

Life is Better with Friends

Today our theme at Practical Scrappers is "stitching on your layout". I'm a huge fan of sewing, so this was perfect for me. I'm really trying to use up my stash and with this Echo Park line, I have the whole collection, so it was an easy choice what to use. It's perfect for boy layouts. This is Noah playing with Daisy and Jax on Mothers Day. The puppies just follow him around everywhere. They are quite the little threesome. That's why...Life is Better with Friends, even if they are puppies! I used a sketch from a new site I found called ScrapFriends for some inspiration. Hope everyone is having an awesome scrappy day!

The Onesie

Today at Practical Scrappers we are featuring humorous layouts. I didn't have to put alot of thought into this one. I've wanted to scrap these pictures for a long time. This is my son-in-law Christopher. On a trip to Banff he found his "dream outfit"...THE ONESIE. He didn't take it off for weeks. He even wore it to the New Years party. He tells me he is 'bringing sexy back"...un huh. My daughter says "it's a good thing I love you", lol. I guess I should start looking for matching onesie's for father and baby if they have kids, lol. So come by and see what our designers did , there are some funny layouts on the blog today. Since I was using Authentique products, I thought I would use their latest sketch for my layout. I had fun making the three dimensional stars and I even made the little envelope. It was hard not to put on some flowers, lol.

The challenge today at Practical Scrappers is a baby card! I just found out a few weeks ago that my niece was expecting a baby girl! This was the perfect day to make her a card! Her two year old son Noah kept saying "Momma having a baby sister for me to play with"...I guess he knew all along!

Practical Scrappers - Disney

Our challenge today at Practical Scrappers is "Tags on Layouts". The Bazzill "Wayfarer" line was just perfect!  On one sheet there was a mixture of postcards and tags that I cut out. To me it was perfect for doing a travel layout. This is Ryan, Chris and Nicole when we were in Disneyland last year. I've never seen three kids have that much fun. Our whole family got to be kids again for an entire week. We even went back to the kids part and took photos in the same places we did when they were 6 & 10. It was a trip I will never forget!

Urban Scrapbook / Practical Scrappers "Daisy Day"

I know what your thinking...here come the Daisy layouts, lol! This is my pretty little girl! She makes me so happy. She is the calmest little girl. Yesterday I was visiting the girls at Urban Scrapbook and Pat gave me this adorable line of paper from Prima to work with. I was so excited to do my first Daisy layout with it. Being part of the design team at Urban is like a dream come true.

I did this layout for the "Polygon 5 sided" reveal at Practical Scrappers. I decided to use hexagons..and took inspiration from one of NikkiARNGwife's layouts at Scrapbook.com. She is an amazing digital artist, and I wanted to try doing it the traditional way.

Make sure you stop by and join in the fun! I got my inspiration for this from the amazing sketch by Janice at Sketches With A Twist where you have to do the sketch and the twist is "green".

This is just too much fun! I just made the Top 15 at Practical Scrappers . This is my new layout for the next round. It's your support and votes that are keeping in this competition, so once again I'm going to ask ( I know I'm getting to be a pain, lol) for you to take a moment if you can and stop by and vote! The link to vote is http://www.practicalscrappers.com/2012/01/3rd-round-layout-contest-vote-here.html  Our challenge was to use these beautiful photos of quilts. I chose the design of the quilt rather than the color.

I got the inspiration from the sketch at Stuck on U Sketches which to me had a quilt feel to it and the title inspiration came from the challenge at Bird Is The Word.
