Edge of Dusk - Book Review

Annie Pederson is a law enforcement ranger, but also a young widow who has a young daughter. When Annie is not working, she is running the Tremolo Resort and Marina that has been in her family for decades. Annie loves the resort, but her most tragic memories are also located here. When Annie was nine, her sister was kidnapped and Annie will never forget that night. Every time she hears the loons calling, it takes her back to that tragic night. When strange things start happening on the resort, Annie and her daughters’ lives may be at risk. Who would want to cause her harm? Can the one person she trusted with her heart be able to help her now?

Jon Dustan, Annie’s first love is back in Rock Harbor trying to renovate and sell his father’s cabin. Jon is also facing his ghosts after being accused years ago of harming two teenage girls whose bodies have never been found. When two bodies are discovered, Annie and Jon must try and solve the murders before Jon is accused once more.

I really enjoyed all the twists and turns in this first novel in the Annie Pedersonseries by author Colleen Coble. The setting of an idyllic small town, a grieving widow with a young daughter, and with several mysteries surrounding the town, it has all the right ingredients. The characters were so well written, I could feel the emotions Annie was experiencing at each turn of the story. One teaser, which I did not expect at the very end of the book, really surprised me left me already excited about the next book in the series. Thank you, Thomas Nelson Publishing for my advanced readers copy. I voluntarily read and reviewed this novel. A fabulous new series.

A Stranger's Game - Book Review

Torie is back on Jekyll Island undercover to try and solve the disappearance of her best friend. Torie does not believe that her friend has drown and starts looking for clues at the resort that her friend worked at, and that Tories family owns. Torie can not let anyone know who she is but when the head of security figures out her cover, she has no other option but to trust him. As clues reveal themselves, there are ties that link not only her friends drowning, but the tragic death of Tories mother years ago. What lengths will the killer go to, to hide the truth?

I enjoyed this book by Colleen Coble and her writing style. The characters were interesting, and I loved all the animals that found their way into the story.  For me though, Torie’s cover was blown way too soon and her relationship with Joe and his daughter happened too quickly. It also took me awhile to figure out all the characters but once I did, the book flowed effortlessly. Thank you to Thomas Nelson Publishing for an advanced copy of the book to review in exchange for my honest opinion.

Two Reasons to Run - Book Review

Jane Hardy is a police chief in a small town and will do anything to keep her town safe. When a local resident comes to her claiming her son is missing and she believes there is foul play at large, Jane jumps on the case. When she starts investigating, she finds that her ex husband Reid is also hot on the trail. Can she put her feeling for Reid aside and let Reid help her solve this case?

Reid Bechtol, a documentarian is back in town with his teenage son Will and is trying to reconnect with Jane. He has hidden Will from Jane all these years and is trying to get her to understand why he did what he did. When he gets an email about a possible threat on an oil platform, he decides to go undercover under the guise of doing a documentary to find out what is going on. When he finds Jane is also on the case, he is excited to spend more time with her. Will he be able to get closer to Jane and gain her trust?

Jane and Reid are racing against the clock at every turn. When the killer threatens their family, they must make the decision to back off the investigation or keep digging up long buried secrets. Can they solve the crime and keep their family safe?

This was a fast action suspense that kept me on the edge of my seat, and I could not put the book down. I loved Colleen Coble writing style and how she draws you right into the story with the depth and dimension of the main and supporting characters. This is the second book in the series, and I did read it with as a stand a lone novel and had no trouble catching up on the backstory. I do plan though to go back and read the first novel to get the full story. I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Thank you so much to the author Colleen Coble, Thomas Nelson Publishing and NetGalley for a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.

Book Review: Cross My Heart

https://amzn.to/2xerIAa
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

This is the story of Ben and Ashley. The story begins with a cousin of Ben’s gifting him a bible from his great-great-grandfather.Ben is starting an equine therapy program on a farm that has been in his family for generations. Ashley rescues horses and finds new homes for these beautiful animals. The two meet when Ben needs help finding horses for his program. Both are gun shy about new relationships, so slowly they become friends. Soon they find out that they have more in common than just horses. They both had troubled pasts and have past relationships that have hurt them. Both are harboring secrets from their pasts and are worried that if they bring them into the light it might jeopardize their new friendship. Will they reveal what’s hidden deep inside themselves for a chance at love?

Robin Lee Hatcher does a brilliant job of blending the story of Ben and Ashley in with the story of Ben’s great-great-grandfather Andrew’s story from long ago. I loved how beautifully she wove bible passages into the story and touched so elequently on the joy, faith and hope of being a Christian not only in today’s society but also how a family relied on their beliefs to get them through the war. I absolutely loved this story and only found out after I read it that’s it’s the second book in her “Legacy of Faith” series. The book definitely can be read as a stand-alone novel, but I am already looking up the first book to read and can’t wait for the next one. Thank you so much Thomas Nelson and NetGalley for an advanced copy of this book to review.

The Printed Letter Bookshop - Book Review

https://amzn.to/2VmK2k5

Madeline is shocked to find out that her Aunt Maddie has left her the bookshop she cherished after she passed. Madeline doesn’t know anything about running a book shop and decides to sell it, that is until she visits the shop and meets the two women who work there. Janet, who is recently divorced and is finding her way loves working at the book shop. Claire who is a mother and wife and is looking for her purpose in life is the other employee. Soon together, these three women work together to find a way to keep the shop open.
What I loved about this book is how the author Katherine Reay tells the story from the perspective of all three women throughout the book. We gain insight into their personal lives which brings us so much closer to the characters. I love how Madeline, Janet and Claire grow closer in friendship during the book. It was a fabulous read and I look forward to reading another book by this author.  Thank you to Thomas Nelson and NetGalley and for an advanced copy of the book to review.
