 My personal review

I absolutely love this Bible. The extra wide margins are perfect for journaling or creating in. The illustrations are beautiful as well. The cover is so gorgeous bound in faux leather, with the gold foil accents and the pages trimmed in gold as well.  I love this beautiful Bible and can’t wait to create in it.

The Soul At Rest - Book Review

Are you longing for a deeper relationship with God? Are you struggling to find balance between work and worship?  This book by Tricia McCaary Rhodes  is exactly what you are looking for.  It’s a book to help you find a spiritual practice that calms your soul, helps you focus, and guides you on how to deepen your prayer life with God. For forty days you journey each day practicing prayer and pressing in by reading, reflecting and journaling. The balance quickly restores between life and prayer. You will grow in your faith as well as opening up your heart and letting everything inside go to God. He is there, He is listening.

I loved working through this book. I have always prayed, but didn’t feel the closeness that one can feel with God. It’s a practice that I need to carry forward. I can definitely see picking this book up again during Lent for a refreshing forty day journey with God, Thank you to Tyndale House for an advanced copy of this book to review.

Sacred Questions - Book Review

This book by Kellye Fabian is a refreshing change in the word of devotionals. We get to read Kellye’s story and reflections, but what this book does that so few do is direct you straight to Scripture to delve deeper and ask your questions. As the Kellye writes in her introduction : “ As I reflect back, I can see that God has used this practice of asking questions to show me who He is, allow me to see myself more clearly, break patterns of sin, grow in forgiveness and love, and join His work in the world.”.  This is exactly what I was looking for, that soul searching conversation with God to help me grow, learn and change.  Through the year the devotions are broken down into fifteen different sections which focus on topics to help you find your way back to God in a new and different experience.

Even though I am not finished the book, the journey so far has been so thought provoking and it has challenged me in so many different ways to face things not only from my past but also my present. I feel lighter and closer to God. I am really looking forward to continuing my journey of faith for the following year. Thank you so much to Tyndale House for an advanced copy of this book for my open and honest review.

The Struggle is Real - Book Review

The Struggle Is Real by Nicole Unice
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Yes, my friends, the struggle is real. We struggle at work, at home, with family and friends. How are we coping? Do we sit and wonder why we are struggling? The author Nicole Unice states it so clearly when she says “Our struggles are the training ground for wisdom”. Yes, God uses our struggles to teach us wisdom, to teach us patience and humbleness. Nicole shares her struggles and stories in such a beautiful way that you feel you are sitting with her at your kitchen table and are finally seeing the light for the first time. Things start to become crystal clear. We are not alone, God is with us. Our struggles are what make us who we are. We can take down the façade of pretending as Nicole says “that our particular circumstances are harder than we deserve, but outwardly pretending we are too spiritual to get worked up about them”. She keeps it “real”, everyday real, real life “real”.

I found this book refreshing. I let down my guard and searched deep within to face my reality and to gain wisdom. The fog of pretending was disappearing and life was making sense again. There are many layers left to peel away, but I found this book soul searching and it makes you want to open up and see what lies beneath all the layers we have been hiding behind. A solid five stars for this book. Thank you to Tyndale House for an advanced copy of the book to review.

Just Let Go - Book Review

This second novel in the Harbor Pointe series by Courtney Walsh is another beautifully written story about second chances and past memories finally put to rest. In this story we meet Quinn who has just realized a life long dream of owning a flower shop her own mother once owned. Quinn is sweet and kind and has a loving family supporting her at every turn. In walks Grady Benson, an Olympic skier who enters town with a chip on his shoulder. He is reckless and he is selfish. Now how do you get these two totally different characters to fall in love? With a little help from some family, some friends and some love from above! I had a hard time putting this one down as I was so drawn into the story.  Courtney fast became one of my favourite authors with her last book and she does not disappoint with this latest novel. I’m now patiently awaiting the next book. I was so graciously gifted this book by Tyndale House for an open and honest review.

Spread Too Thin - Book Review

Are you so busy running  you can’t stop? Is running the race of everyday life feel like a losing battle? We get up, we race, we fall into bed exhausted, we repeat…friends…it’s time to stop! EllenMiller helps bring our minds and our hearts to a better place. A place of mindfulness, quietness and  peace. This book isn’t just a devotional, this book is dairy, a journal, a place where we can slow down, take a look at ourselves, our lives and most importantly our relationship with God.

I really enjoyed this book. The personal stories can’t help but touch your heart at the same time as it touches your soul. This is soul work friends. 90 days of stories, Scriptures and questions. Take that moment to turn the first page. Day 5 was one of my favourites. The story of the little boy suffering from Prader-Willi syndrome, an illness where you are always hungry, never satisfied. That is us in today’s society, always longing and hungering for me, for better, for the golden ticket. God is handing it to you my friends, you just have to slow down enough to reach for it. I so graciously received a copy of this book from Tyndale house for an open and honest review

High Treason Book Review

Click here to get your copy

DiAnn Mills has another hit on her hands with her third fast paced novel  in the FBI Task Force series.  It’s  the story of Kord and Monica who are both protecting a visiting Saudi Prince. Kord who is FBI, is a long time friend of the Prince, and Monica is an expert from the CIA. They are brought together under a tense situation, so they not only need to protect the prince, but they need to work together to do it. Tension rises, family ties are questioned, and in amongst all of that….is there a spark between Kord & Monica? Add in two different cultures and religions into the mix and the story starts to unfold.

What I loved about this book is how DiAnn Mills took two totally different cultures and religions and brought them together  to show the reader how the two worlds can combine with respect and honor. I loved the pace of the book which left you guessing at every turn what would happen next. Just as you thought you had it all figured out, a new twist would arise.  A brilliantly written novel that has all the keys…love, mystery and The Lord.  I was so graciously gifted this book from Tyndale House for an open and honest review, Thank you Tyndale.

Book Review - Restore by Vince Antonucci

Vince Antonucci is like a breath of fresh air. His new book hits the hard topic of addiction and recovery but he broaches the topic with  a way that everyone can relate to. Are you an addict? Of course we aren't! Are you sure? Do we turn to "things", "people", "chocolate", or "shopping" to ease our stress or to feel more joy in our lives? Do we buy one outfit and feel good, so we think if we buy two we will feel even better? Do we come home and binge watch our favourite tv show to numb the pain of the day? That my friend is an addiction. I will let Vince explain the rest. He keeps it real folks! He will tell you about his family, his dog and his life. He will tell you stories from the Bible in a way you can understand and relate to. He combines our daily habits, our stress and our joys and explains how whether it's a good day or a bad day there is only one way to go. One person to turn to. That's right....God! Seems so simple doesn't it? Yet why can't we do it? Vince will walk you through the steps, help you discover a new relationship with God.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. It's one that I think everyone can relate to. I felt a kinship with Vince. It's like he can see into our everyday struggles and joyous moments and can explain how and why we feel the way we do. A brilliantly written book that I highly recommend. I was so graciously gifted this book by Tyndale House publishers for my honest review.

The NEW Swindoll Study Bible - An Amazing Tool for your journey in faith.

This Bible has enriched my journey in faith for so many reasons. Firstly the NLT version is easy to read and understand. Then we get the gift of Chuck Swindolls many years of experience and teaching brought to us on the pages as well. Each book starts off with an explanation of who, what where, when and why. The bonus here was "How do I apply this?". I was already learning and I was only on page one. The "living insights" helped me relate to what I was reading and the story is explained in a very helpful manner. There are charts and maps to further your understanding of what the Holy Word is saying. The "application articles" are so wonderful as we get to read Chuck Swindolls deep perspective on the book you are studying. The prayer moments are a special treat as I felt the Chuck was right there, praying with me as I walked the journey. I have had other study bibles, but nothing compares this one. I feel I am not only reading, I am understanding at a new level. This would be a perfect Bible for a new Christian as much as it is for the more advanced student of the Word. I highly recommend this for any and all of us journeying together in our faith. I was so graciously gifted this Bible by Tyndale house for a honest review.

The Wonder of Advent Devotional

Are you ready for the Christmas Season? Really ready? Are we prepared to celebrate the season to it's fullness? This book The Wonder of Advent by Chris Tiegreen may be just what we need. To quote the author "We want not only to appreciate what happened in Bethlehem more than two millennia ago; we want to experience it in our lives right now.". We have all heard the story and sang the songs, but to experience it by delving deep into Gods word and applying it to our own lives, brings to life a whole new meaning. Within the book are Scriptures, explorations of the passages, prayers, and questions for reflection. It causes you pause, to ponder, to pray. Come to a whole new understanding of the miracle of Jesus' birth through this amazing little book.

When I first received this book I was so curious I had to read just a few pages. Well a few pages led to a few more. I was seeing the story of Jesus' birth as if for the first time. The book is so well written and really helps us prepare for the season of Advent. I am ready to begin reading this book again through the weeks leading to Christmas. I love the questions that prompted reflection not only  about what happened so long ago, but how it affects us today. I believe this book will be brought out time and again during the Advent seasons to come.

I was so blessed with a copy of this book from Tyndale House for review.

Habits of the Heart Book Review

Do you really want to deepen your relationship with God? Are you ready to open your heart to Him?  The Habits of the Heart by Katherine J. Butler is a little book, but don't be fooled, it has a big message. This isn't your average 365 day devotional. These are 365 ways to enrich and deepen your relationship with God. Practices to train your heart to embrace and welcome God into your life. It will open your mind and heart to everyone around you. Each week there is a theme, and within that theme, each day provides a Scripture and a practice for you to follow for the day. It's short, it's well written and you won't believe how your journey in faith will grow. This is a book I am going to leave on my desk, tuck into my purse and leave by my bed. I highly recommend this little gem!

I love learning and this book is really helping me grow in my walk with the Lord. I love putting the daily exercises into practice. They aren't hard, they are meaningful. They help you open your mind, your eyes and your heart to the world around you. I love to read them in the morning so that I can ponder them throughout the day. I look forward to each morning to see what my lesson of the day will be! I do think this little book will show up under a few Christmas trees this year.

I thank Tyndale House for gifting me with a copy of this book for review.

Just Look Up - Book Review

Are you so busy with your head down, answering emails, returning texts, checking your social media? Then I think you can relate to the main character Lane Kelley in this book. She is overworked, exhausted and then receives a phone call asking her to come home. A home she left behind years ago.  Ryan Brooks and old friend comes back into her life while she is home challenging her to slow down and enjoy life a little more. She has to face the past and decide on her future as well. Her story evolves beautifully with well written characters and a few twists and turns. This is the first book I have read by Courtney Walsh and I will definitely be looking for her other books! All in all, a beautifully written story that so many of us can relate too.

I was so graciously gifted a copy of this book by Tyndale house for my honest review.

A Day at the Beach - Book Review

How does a day at the beach sound? Pretty relaxing right? Sun, sand and beautiful ocean waves! Authors and brothers Todd and Jedd Hafer teach us through their daily devotions how to relax and immerse ourselves in the word of God. Through prayer and reflection we can learn to unplug from our daily hustle and bustle and pause. To get to the root of what God wants for us and for our lives.

I love the following passage from the book :
We create so much unnecessary hoopla in our own regularly scheduled programming. We plan, we implement, and we work hard… and get frustrated when nothing comes of it. Desperate and empty, we finally look to Jesus as a last resort — because we don’t recognize who He is. And sometimes, really, all He’s asking is that we come join Him and take part in what He’s prepared and created. The rest will come.
So declutter your mind of plans, schedules, and “to do” lists. Instead, look out upon the waves, wiggle your toes in the sand, absorb the sights, smells, and sounds, and enjoy the moment for what it is — not what it means, not what lies ahead, not how you arrived here. There will be another time for that. For now, just be present with Him."

Need I say more... it's about finding what matters, what's important and how to live in the present each moment with God. Each devotion doesn't take long to read, but it gets you pondering your life and how you can get closer to God. A fabulous read! I was so graciously gifted this book from Tyndale House for my honest review.

60 Days of Happiness Book Review

What makes you happy? Is it your new sweater? Maybe the gorgeous pair of shoes you just got on sale? Randy Alcorn helps us gain perspective on what actually makes us happy. It's not in the "physical" things we have. True Happiness can only be found in one place. In our relationship with God. The closer you get to God by reading scripture, you will understand all the gifts God has bestowed on us and how God truly wants us to be happy.

The book is broken into 60 devotional readings, so it's wonderful to read a few pages a day and be able to reflect on Randy's word and Scripture. I honestly found the book quite intense and written as a scholar would write. I gave it three stars as I am personally drawn to books that are based on "every day" circumstances and connect with the reader in a more personal way.
I was gifted a copy of this book by Tyndale House Publishers and am so grateful.

Catching Heat - 5 Star Book Review

Good Morning! I just finished reading this fabulous book by Janice Cantore. Catching Heat is the third book in the Cold Case Justice Series. I was blessed with an advanced copy from Tyndale House to review and I literally could not put this book down! The story of Abby and Luke continues as they search for more clues into the deaths of Abby's parents some twenty seven years ago. After reading the first few pages I realized I just had to go find the first two books in the series and start there, even though the author does a fabulous job of catching you up if it's the first book you've read. Drawing Fire is where the story begins, and in Burning Proof the mystery continues. As you get to know Abby and Luke, you see how their stories intertwine, each supporting the other, both with different reasons for trying to solve the twenty seven year old murder.

I was so engrossed with this book. The story lines mixed with getting to know the characters was so well written. I read all three books in three days while I was on holidays!  I couldn't wait to see what happened next and how the mystery would be solved. I loved Abby's character, a woman on a mission! Luke is a great support for her and his story is captivating. Bring in a few returning characters and the story draws you in. I would say this is one of my new favourite authors! I am now going to read the next series she has written. All in all the book gets a 5 star rating!! You won't be disappointed if like a good mystery! The book is being released Sept 1, 2016, so plenty of time to read the first two in the series!

Closer Than Close by Dave Hickman - Book Review

( Click on the Photo to buy this book at Amazon)

Good Morning Everyone! Today I want to share some thoughts on the amazing book by Dave Hickman called "Closer than Close" that Tyndale House graciously sent me to review. I can not say enough great things about this book, it has become one of my all time favourites! I think I've highlighted most of the book!

Now what is this book about? It's about the relationship Jesus wants to have with you. How many times have we said "I would love to be closer to God, but I don't know how". Do you need to pray more? Maybe read more? Maybe go out and serve your community more? Well Dave answers those questions and more! He starts off by saying "We need to first of all do nothing". Nothing? Do Nothing? Did you know you are already perfect in God's eyes? He knows you intimately already? Dave shows you how to open your hearts and minds to God unending love and mercy. Through his personal journey, he guides you into the perfect relationship with God.

I personally could not put this book down. I wanted to highlight every line. Dave made the bible verses come to life for me. His easy way of writing helped me understand questions that I've had for a very long time. He doesn't preach, He shares his story and the story of others who have shared this journey to become closer to God. He helped me face my "false self" as he calls it, the "self" that is constantly trying to win God's approval. I loved this line in the book " For the better part of my life, I too have lived with such a great longing to be close to God that I failed to look (consider) just how close God has been ( and continues to be) in my life. This was a real eye opener for me.

I would highly recommend this book to anyone who is on the path to wanting to have a closer relationship with God. Thank you so much for stopping by today! I hope you enjoy this book as much as I have.

 Have a wonderful day! Lynn

The Wired Soul Book Review

Good Morning! Today I'm doing something a little different. I'm doing a book review. I was given a complimentary copy of this book by Tyndale House and thought I would share my thoughts with you.

In this age of "hyper connectivity" we are more tired, less aware. We are distracted and always think we need to be up to date on all our social media. Texts are beeping, emails are dinging, and where are we? We are the ones trying to play catch up 24/7! And where does that leave us time to pray? To meditate? To be thankful? In this book Tricia McCary Rhodes shows us how to slow down, connect with our God, to go back to the classic disciplines that we need to keep us focused and aware. Our brains are being wired everyday in many ways, so why not have it slow us down, keep us in tune with our surroundings and our prayer life.

I found some out some very interesting things about myself while reading this book. When she talks about how we skim materials, whether it be text messages or a book, I thought "well that isn't me".. but yes, yes it is! I learned how to focus, take my time, read and take in all the information. I am learning to slow down. It's not a race to see who finishes first, it's about what we learned and how we can apply it in our own lives. It was a very moving book for me. I liked the science explanations and the personal stories she shared. It was a book that opened my eyes to how this "Technology" age has us scrambling. I would definitely share this book with my adult children.

The New Inspire Bible by Tyndale House!!

Hi Everyone! Today I am sharing a short video flip through of the new Inspire Bible by Tyndale House being released this month! I was blessed to get an advanced copy of the bible to review. This bible is absolutely amazingly beautiful! It has over 400 illustrations to color!! And let me tell you, each one is beautiful! The line drawings are amazing. There is also a 2" ruled margin for you to create with, journal in, write notes, whatever you would like to do. The text is an 8.65 font, so it's very easy to read. The illustrations are whimsical, classic, vintage... something to please everyone. You can color them, add your own drawings too them, or just leave them black and white. My favourite part is that each book of the bible has a title page that is so beautifully illustrated. I was more than impressed with it. I am excited to begin my journey with this gorgeous bible. If you have any questions at all, just ask here, drop me and email, or find me on facebook! Hope you enjoy the flip through and have an awesome day!
