The Perfumer Scent of Triumph - Book Review

The Perfumer Scent of Triumph by Jan Moran

In 1939 at the start of World War II, Danielle Bretancourt a third-generation perfumer who is pregnant and her husband Max along with their friend Jon, are on their way home from America when the ship they are sailing on takes a direct hit from a U-boat. The couple is separated and when they finally arrive home, she can not locate her young son whom they left with Max’s mother in Poland. Danielle vows to find Nicky her son no matter what the cost. When it becomes unsafe for Danielle and her newborn daughter to stay in Europe after devastating losses, she heads to America with her mother to start a new life and hopefully new leads to locate Nicky.

When they arrive in America, Danielle takes a job to help feed and house her family, but her dream is developing a perfume she has been working on. When she takes a chance at a fashion show, her perfume becomes an instant hit and Danielle seems to be on her way. She still misses home but her letters from Jon bring her continued hope of finding Nicky and returning to Europe.

Danielle’s life takes a dramatic turn when she accepts a proposal and finds herself now living the life of the rich and famous. But is this new life everything she expected? When the reality of this new life comes to light, Danielle must make some hard decisions regarding her future and the future of her family.

This novel by Jan Moran touched so many emotions. It was heart wrenching yet heartwarming with moments of tears as we follow Danielle’s journey. This was just a brilliant novel that has every element of a best seller. I was totally engrossed in the story and found it hard to put the book down. It is so hard to try and capture the essence and the complexity of this novel in a review. I put this novel at the top of my most loved books of all time. A huge thank you to the author Jan Moran for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was absolutely amazing! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.
