One Little Word - July WrapUp

Good Morning Folks! Today I wanted to share my July Pages from my One Little Word binder. I will be honest, it took me awhile to get into the prompt, but once I did..things went pretty smoothly. July was about our "manifesto". I couldn't pick just one statement so I used a subway art poster that had many of the words that kept popping up. For fun I made all my words through the pages "hastags".

To achieve Balance I have to "let go". There are so many things that I think I can control, I don't stop, be still and just enjoy the moment. Well that has to change. I'm reviewing an excellent book by Dave Hickman called "Closer than Close", which about our relationship with our God. I am at the part where he talks about "doing nothing", slowing down, really appreciating every moment and every wonder in our world. Stop and smell the roses they say.. well there is something to that! It's now August, month 8, and balance and I are still struggling to get it right. I've made a few changes though. Taking time to sit outside more, reading a bit more, even went back to my old friend the treadmill. It's a start! When I get off track, my OLW gives me that gentle nudge, the little wink and smile. I know what I have to do... I just want to know why it's so hard!

I am finding that my bible journaling also compliments what I am trying to achieve in my OLW. I found the journaling cards in the new Journal, were perfect for my pages as a gentle reminder. Maybe together they can get me moving towards Balance.

Catching Up My One Little Word Binder

Good Morning. Today I'm just sharing some of my pages from my One Little Word Binder. I had everything printed, I just needed to get organized, so I took the binder out to the cabin with me and spent some time with some magazines, scissors and glue. It was such fun. I had done a collage poster for my March assignment but didn't want to leave my binder pages empty. I wasn't sure I would get into cutting up magazines, but oh once I started, I couldn't stop. I went back and added some word strips to my other pages too. So here is March ( the collage pages), May ( the photo a day pages) and June ( a month of reflection prompts). All caught up now, and ready to take on July!!!

Here's March!

Now on to May ( April's pages were already done)

And a few pages from June.

What Happened to Balance in May?

Good Morning! It's June! Say what? Where did May go?
My One Little Word for 2016 is "Balance"
How's that working for me?

Well, we know April didn't go so well, with the start of Etsy and Youtube tutorials, it was hard to find balance. With May came a new release of my "Praise & Pray" Journal Series, and a new facebook group I started so we have a place to worship and inspire one another. I will say, those members are an awesome group. I smile, I laugh, I am overwhelmed most days by how sweet and supportive they are all of my journey. It's the same feeling I get in the OLW group.

During the month I did do the prompt of taking photos. I baked cookies, I sat on the deck, I read a book!

And, Yes, I am working alot, Yes, I don't leave my studio! But I feel fulfilled, I have energy, I have hope! And in a strange way, I feel balanced!

When I started Bible Journaling, I told people I felt my art finally had "meaning".
Well with this new journey I am on designing and creating journals, I finally feel
my LIFE has "meaning".

I am headed in a new direction. It's scary, it's exciting, it's fulfilling, I'm breathless
but I'm finally starting to feel Balanced! So let's see what June brings!
I'm always ready for a new adventure!

Your all invited to come and join our group and see what we are working on!
I would love to have you join us.
Lynn

Technique Thursday #8 - One Little Word April

Technique Thursday One Little Word April Pages by Lynn Shokoples
Good Morning and Welcome back to Technique Thursday! Again we are a day early as tomorrow I am over at Creative Scrapbooker Magazine sharing a bible page tutorial! Today I am working in my One Little Word Binder doing my pages for the April Prompt. I've been keeping my binder to the black and white theme, but I wanted to change it up abit and do some mixed media pages. So I took out the paints, stencils and stamps and got to work! I won't talk much here, because I do a lot of talking in the video, lol

One Little Word - Balance Update

https://www.etsy.com/ca/shop/Lot95Designs?ref=hdr_shop_menu
Good Morning! Today I just wanted to sit back and write about how my "One Little Word" is working in my life... and to be honest.. Balance is the farthest thing away from me at the moment. Why? Let me tell you.

Let's back it up to:
January.. I was all over the prompts! Yeah me...

Then came February.. my daily practice.. Oh yeah!! Hitting the treadmill working hard
for my "one little check mark" each day.

And.....then came March!!
A mood board? I was all over that too, and was continuing my daily practice, this time
writing a daily prayer in a journal I made.

And then......
Balance became a thing of the past.
My treadmill got dusty, my life got crazy and all I could do is think how to
regain that "Balance".
A couple of weeks ago, I decided to share my art through Youtube.
Never, ever having done a video, I was terrified, but my OLW group gave me courage. It turned
into a fun thing that I love doing so now I'm doing a weekly tutorial called "Technique Thursday". I've always wanted to share and help people, so this was so gratifying to me personally.

Along with the videos came requests for the projects I was making, so I turned my
art cards into digital files so everyone can enjoy them too. I added some bible tabs I made and my Little Etsy shop was born. I also added amazon links on separate pages of my favorite art products. All this added up to 16 hour days and balance was a thing of the past.
But I'm loving doing what I'm doing, so all is good right?
(Someone please give me the answer here....please!)

Now it's April and time to bring my OLW back into " balance". The cards in the picture at the top of this post are to help remind me, help me reflect and basically keep me focused and on track! My husband has even noticed I am off "balance", and has mentioned it more than once.
These cards are getting washi taped all over my house!
I can do this!
I can achieve Balance!!!

One Little Word Mood Board

Mood Board for One Little Word by Lynn Shokoples
 Good Morning!
Our prompt this month in my One Little Word Class by Ali Edwards was to make a mood board! I had never made one before so I was intrigued. I needed magazines!! I just recycled all of mine when we did our "minimize" clean a few months back. So I phone my mom in a panic, and low and behold she had magazines. Yeah! So I start ripping and tearing trying to decide how big to make it. I then went to our facebook group and saw some of the digital boards people were doing. I was intrigued once again. Digital you say?? I have photoshop, how hard can it be? lol.. To shorten the story, we go out to the cabin and have no internet, and that means No facebook, No instagram, No Pinterest. Talk about going off the grid. So I had plenty of time to learn how to make a mood board! I found this awesome blog Becoming the Boss.(and thankfully saved everything to take with me)
She shared templates, tutorials, shortcuts! And in no time I learnt how to make my first mood board. I was so excited I must have made 10! So it's on it's way to be printed and I will hang it in my studio making room of course for my next mood board!!
What I learned!
I found out a bit about myself doing this mood board. I have been termed "earthy organic" in the scrappy world, and that seemed to really come through in my board. I like earthy colors, the outdoors and vintage things. I also noticed my lack of "words" on my board. I have collected quotes for years, yet didn't use any. I guess this time, the pictures spoke to me.  The "real" me came through on this board. Baggy sweaters, books, blankets, bracelets and my love of clocks. I'm glad I just "went with it", no thought no plan. So this is me, the real me.. as I shake my hand and say "nice to meet you", you've been hiding for awhile.

Since doing my post, my photo was ready!! Heading up to the Studio to hang it up!

Thanks so much for stopping by. I love reading your comments and I appreciate your scrappy support! Have a wonderfully happy scrappy day! Lynn

One Little Word - February

One Little Word February by Lynn Shokoples
It's February and that means a new prompt at Ali Edwards One Little Word Class
I say it over and over again but this is one of the best classes I have ever taken and it's only month 2!
When I started I thought, ok, let's give it a try, not expecting any big miracles. Well, let me tell ya, I'm already blown away. Last month I tried putting my word into practice, and it started to make a difference in my day. This month we are trying to achieve something for the month. I chose exercise, because honestly it's been lacking these past few months! Ok, so how is my word "Balance" going to help here, I couldn't see it.. Well, I'm into the month and again am blown away. Just making the commitment to walk on my treadmill everyday has brought balance to my life. I am taking time for me! Balance is slowly being restored! I feel better, I feel more centered, I'm finding ME again!
One Little Word February by Lynn Shokoples
Each month I don't have anything in mind for my binder, I'm just "goin' with the flow" so to speak. This month it was using up some of my BoBunny stash from last year which is Valentine themed, yet fun to use in my binder. And the big red stickers?? Gosh, how old are those?
One Little Word February by Lynn Shokoples
See the bike?? I picked it as my "symbol" for the year. Riding a bike = balance! And I happen to have a few (cough) bicycle stamps that are coming in quite handy!

I purposely left the last page undone so I can come back and do a reflection on how the month went.

Balance -Why it's my One Little Word

I enrolled in a class by Ali Edwards called One Little Word on New Years Eve. "Balance" was the word I chose, or shall I say, the word chose me. Why? I guess my word and I will find that out on the journey we are embarking on.

So now the journey has begun. What does "Balance" look like? It looks like a meditating yogi sitting on a cushion free from stress right? Or does it look like a mom, a wife, a designer, a business owner trying to figure out how to do it all, do it right, and do it on time? That's where balance comes in.

Balance means finding that intricate measure of taking care of yourself, others, and all the other "life" stuff in between. It means having pizza when you are too tired to cook and say "Hey it's ok". Or maybe it's taking a day in your pj's in your studio playing with paint and stencils all day and not feeling "guilty" ( ohhh that word makes me shudder).  Maybe, just maybe , are you ready for it? Saying "NO" once in awhile ( now that's a tough one for me).

Balance comes easy when I'm sitting out at the cabin in my cozy chair, sipping tea and watching the sunset. Things seem so simple, so easy, and my life there is in balance. But then the day comes when you have to pack up and come back to the "city house" as we call it. When we open the door, that's when I need to bring "balance" in my life again. I'm really thinking I should move to the country where life is just balanced with little effort.

Balance is about accepting who you are, and that means digging. Digging deep. That's what this year is about. Finding out who I am, being ok with it and learning to love me, limitations and all!!

But I have questions!!! And this year on my journey I will be working on answering them. It's about hope, prayer, willingness and observance. It's about balance!(there's that word again). Laughing and crying, praying and being thankful, walking and dancing in a field of wildflowers, being a mom and being a friend, you get the gist.. I strive to be "enough". An amazing quote I read today from Krista O'Reilly

What if I never really amount to anything when I grow up – beyond mom and sister and wife. But these people in my primary circle of impact know they are loved and that I would choose them again, given the choice. Can this be enough?

I'm learning, slowly that I am enough, I will be ok, I will achieve balance in all
aspects of my life.

Now a few projects I want to share:
This is my One Little Word Binder Cover.
My symbol for the year is a bicycle.
Bicycle = Balance
I shared some of my binder pages in the post

This is a page I did in my Bible Art Journal
from the prompts at Art By Erin Leigh
where she does Faith Art Fridays.

One Little Word - January

One Little Word January Page by Lynn Shokoples
Hi! Today I'm sharing another project I have on the go for 2016. I came across the One Little Word Class by Ali Edwards on New Years Eve and couldn't resist! I had already picked my word which is "Balance" and am excited to work on bringing this word into focus for 2016. Balance is definitely something I need in life!
One Little Word January Page by Lynn Shokoples
I had bought this little album at Michael's a few weeks ago.. just because, lol... no reason, it was cute, I would find a use for it, lol. When I saw how Ali did her album I was all geared up for black and white, simple, graphic! Well.. as I discovered if you don't know what your "Style" is, you will soon find out when you try something else. I discovered I can't do ONLY black and white. I need that touch of color! And I'm also not simple.. I like doo dads! Stamps, cards, stickers, pens.. I just feel compelled to do it! But that's just me, and once again I tried to slow down, breathe and just go with the prompts and take my time.

So these are the first few pages. I'm excited to see what comes up next month. Do you have a word for 2016? I would love to know what it is! Now onto the next project...the cover for this binder.. who knows where that will take me.. (Update: I scheduled my post and then figured out the cover, so I thought I would show you it... simple but yet shabby, lol)
