Elsie Mabel
Fitzpatrick is eighty-one and all she wants is to be left alone in her house on
her quiet street. When a little girl
across the way keeps showing up on her porch insisting, they become friends,
Elsie slowly relents. She has not had a real friend in decades. When a
neighbour is found deceased though, Elsie aka Mad Mabel becomes the number one
suspect and her cover is blown. When two reporters show up, Elsie decides maybe
it is time to tell her story.
Sally
Hepworth brought us a story that just keeps you guessing. With twists and turns
along the way, you can not help but become engrossed in the novel. I loved the
dual time lines of Elsie’s story, slowly releasing the details of Mad Mabel’s
life. The characters were also very well written and I was so surprised towards
the end of the novel. My thanks to St. Martin’s Press, the author and Netgalley
for my advanced copy which I read and reviewed voluntarily. This novel is definitely
a must for your 2026 book lists friends.
