Believe Art Journal Page and Tutorial

Hi Everyone!!! This is a new art journal page I have done. I've gotten a few people asking...ok how do you do that, so I'm sharing this one in steps with you. Believe me, I'm no expert and am still learning myself, but thought it would be fun to document the process. It was somewhat difficult to hold the camera in one hand and take a photo while your other hand is covered in paint...but here we go!!! This one's for you Melinda!!

The first thing is to take your canvas or in my case, my art journal page and cover it in gesso. This protects the page from mediums transferring to the other page. Then grab some random papers, and use my favorite new product MOD PODGE to glue them down. When your done...Mod Podge the whole thing on the top. Don't worry, it dries clear!
Next..and this is fun, lol. Take some Acrylic Ink and drop it onto the page, use a brush to smear it around.  I like this look because it's vintage.
Here is a peek of it half done so you can see the difference.
Oh the fun begins!!! But before you begin..here's my Mixed Media Tip.... I got some Hand Barrier Cream so you can get as messy as you want and it protects your hands. Washes the paint right off.  I got mine at the drugstore in the baby section...Yuppers..Baby Butt Cream!! Now...Get out your paints..I just use typical craft paint. Smear it on, paint it on, cover as much or as little of the paper as you want. I keep saying by the end I've covered up all my pattern paper that I so careful choose, lol.
I know this one looks confusing, lol.. AFTER you smear all that paint everywhere, take some Modeling Paste and add some color to it with your Acrylic Ink or in this case I used just regular old craft paint again. I had some left over after the blue and just grabbed some brown and mixed it up! Now get out all those stencils and have some fun. I still think I put too much thought into where everything should go.. yeah I know...RELAX Lynn!!!
Just smear that modeling paste all over the place, lol. If you make a mistake..grab a baby wipe and just take it off!!!
 Here's a sample of a couple stencils I used.
Here's where I mixed in the brown ( I hate wasting stuff) and got out a few more stencils. See that little baby wipe in the corner...yup that's how many times I screwed up, lol
Next I picked out a saying rub-on and put it on the page. Don't worry if all of it doesn't come off...just fix it with a black pen later.
Next step for me ( and you can add whatever you like) was to grab some Prima Resist Canvas and color them up with some Distress Stain. I painted the title and then took my Gelatos and did some shading. I also stamped over the word too... wanted it to pop!
Now..my favorite part!!! The stamping and doodling. I just randomly stamped borders, titles, butterflies, basically whatever is there gets a stamp, lol. I also take my black pen and add a few doodles and some outlining. Ohhh and a little chalking to my modeling paste to add some color.

Almost done... I grabbed my next favorite thing...Bubble Wrap and painted on some ivory paint and just stamped it all over the place. I love the texture it gives. When you look at your project and say "Yes..I'm done, I love it...get out that Mod Podge and cover the whole page or canvas. Let it dry...remember it dries clear and will protect those rubons and goodies from coming off your page!!!
 Just a close up!
Another close up for you!

Thanks so much everyone for letting me share. I would love to learn how to do a video tutorial...but gosh I would probably forget to hit the pause button and the thing would be 3 hours long, lol. Have fun, get messy and I hope you share some of your projects with me! Have an awesome day!!

Thanks so much for stopping by. I love reading your comments and I appreciate your scrappy support! Have a wonderfully happy scrappy day! Lynn

  4. Lynn I was so happy to see your blog with this tutorial as I'm going to a class tomorrow. I've never done art journaling before and I can't wait to get messy with paint and glue. I'm sure that these techniques can be used on our scrapbooking pages as well. Thanks so much for sharing, your page looks amazing.
