Kate Hamilton is ready to start the renovations on the Barton Mansion in
Asheboro, Maryland. Her ultimate goal is to restore the small town into the
Victorian village it was long ago, but the first thing on her list is the
mansion on the outskirts of town whose owner was a recluse after losing his
wife. When Kate starts the renovations,
it is not long before her new contractor finds a well-preserved body in a
staircase that was walled off by the owner years ago. As they keep digging
secrets buried from long ago come to light as well as some not so old family
secrets from the town’s residents. Who can Kate trust to help her uncover the
mystery of the body and the secrets attached to it?
I loved this murder mystery by Sheila Connolly. The characters were well
developed, and the story moved at a steady pace. I enjoyed uncovering the clues
along with Kate and her friends and did not expect a lot of things that
happened in the story line, which just added to the interest of the book.
Although this was the third book in the series, it was the first one I had read
and had no trouble catching up on the storyline from previous books. I do plan
to go back and read the first two to see how the story first began and am
excited to read the next book in the series. I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book
from St. Martin’s Press whom I wish to thank. All thoughts and opinions are my
own.
Thank you so much for stopping by the farmhouse. Lynn
