The Sandcastle Hurricane - Book Review

A hurricane is on its way to Sandcastle Texas and Tabby and Ellie Mae, two cousins who are trying to manage running their aunt’s beachfront B&B are getting prepared. When a call comes in that some residents from a retirement home need a place to stay, the cousins welcome them with open arms. Four elderly guests should be no problem, right? When Frank, Homer, Maude and Cleo show up, the sisters quickly learn that these four could be worse than the hurricane. The only saving grace is Alex and Ricky who are contractors and friends who are ready and willing to help.

While the hurricane rages and ravages the small town, Ellie Mae, Tabby, Alex, Ricky and the retirees all come together to save the inn and each other in more ways than one.

What a beautiful story Carolyn Brown brings us about family, love and friendship. The characters are so well written with complex back stories that the reader is drawn into the story in the first few pages. I loved getting to know everyone and hear their stories. I absolutely loved the book and am a huge fan of Ms. Browns fabulous story telling. My thanks to Montlake Publishing for my advanced copy which I voluntarily read and reviewed. This is one book my friends you want to curl up with. It’s a fabulous read.

Riverbend Reunion - Book Review

Jessica Callaway is home after her time in the army and can not wait to reunite with her three friends. She has inherited a church her late uncle built, and she has no idea what to do with the abandoned building. Maybe her friends can help her figure out what to do. Risa who is getting divorced, Mary Nell who got kicked out of a long-term relationship and Haley who just uncovered a long-buried family secret gather along side Jessica to decide what they should do. Could this abandoned church be the answer to all their problems? Maybe Wade Granger another army vet who is finding his way can help the ladies realize that coming home again is just what they all need.

This novel by Carolyn Brown was just what the world needed right now. The book takes you on a journey of friends who become family. It was a joy to read a novel where the pages are full of light and love. The characters were beautifully written, and I love the addition of the twin girls who brought many moments of laughter into the story. The added fun was looking up all the songs mentioned in the story and now I have some new music on my playlist. This was a feel good, beautiful story and I would like to thank not only Montlake Publishing, but the author Carolyn Brown for whisking me away on an unforgettable journey. I voluntarily read and reviewed the book, and friends this is one you do not want to miss.

Dead Against Her - Book Review

Sheriff Bree Taggert is caught in a web of deceit in this new thriller!

Bree Taggert is not only a Sheriff, but she is now the guardian of her niece and nephew since her sister’s death. She is trying to balance her work life with her home life and sometimes it becomes a struggle.

When her ex-deputy is found dead in a double homicide, Bree soon becomes tangled in the investigation along with Matt Flynn, her investigator and boyfriend. Not only has there been a murder, but Bree is trying to figure out who is targeting her personally and she is afraid for her family. Can Bree and Matt figure out who is responsible before it is too late?

MelindaLeigh takes us through a web of deceit and lies in this thriller and it is an absolute brilliant novel. The story weaves between Bree’s professional and personal life and as a reader I felt engrossed in the story right from the beginning. The struggles she feels in her personal life adds such depth to her character and to the story. I have enjoyed each book in the series and am ready to see what comes next for Bree and her family. Thank you Montlake Publishing for a gifted copy of the book which I voluntarily reviewed. This series is one that will keep you turning pages my friends!

The Sunshine Club - Book Review

Gussie and Ina Mae had been friends with Blanche for more than sixty years, so it was heartbreaking to attend her funeral. These women even started their own club as young girls called the Sunshine club sharing many fun times and some heartbreaking moments as well that brought them even closer. All their secrets were kept within the walls of their small clubhouse. When Blanche’s niece Sissy comes to town, the Sunshine girls believe that they have one last mission and that is to play matchmaker for Sissy. They are so busy trying to set Sissy up with the handsome single pastor in town, they do not see that Sissy has her own matchmaking plans in place for the two remaining Sunshine club members.

This book was such a breath of fresh air. I loved all the characters, but Gussie and Ida Mae along with a few fun birds, steal the show with their antics and stories. As this was a story of loss, it is also a story of new love and hope renewed. Carolyn Brown wrote an amazing novel and I thought it was the perfect book to curl up by the fire with. My thanks to Montlake Publishing for an advanced readers copy which I voluntarily read and reviewed.

Book Review - Cross Her Heart

https://amzn.to/2PVgPgh

More than twenty five years ago three young children are left alone after a tragic murder suicide of their parents. The children have worked hard putting the past behind them and healing from the tragedy. Now, the oldest, Bree Taggart is a homicide detective who receives a panicked call from her sister Erin. She can’t get a hold of her sister, so she packs up and heads home to see what has happened. When she arrives, she finds out Erin has been murdered. Who would want to hurt her and leave Erin’s two children without a mother? Has the past come back to haunt them once again?

Matt Flynn is a retired K-9 handler who is also Erin’s husbands’ best friend. When he goes to pick up Justin, he finds Erin’s body and Justin has gone missing. Has Justin murdered his wife?
Bree and Matt team up to find the murderer with the local police. They vow to uncover the secrets of Erin’s life and to find Justin if he is still even alive. Bree is torn between the investigation and trying to be there for Erin’s two children.

I loved the chemistry and friendship that develops between Bree and Matt as they race to find the killer. The supporting characters are well written, and the story keeps you enthralled until the very last page. The author did a brilliant job of developing the characters and leaving you wanting more. I was thrilled to learn this is the first book in a series featuring Bree, so I am anxiously awaiting the next book. Thank you so much to Melinda Leigh, Montlake and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to read and review.
