A California Christmas - Book Review

A California Christmas by Brenda Novak

Emery Bliss is hiding out on a ranch in Silver Springs after a humiliating experience as a news anchor. She is hoping to have some time to recuperate, rejuvenate and figure out where her life is heading now. In Silver Springs she can hopefully stay anonymous until she is ready to face the world. What she is not counting on is Dallas coming home for his mothers wedding and turning her world upside down.

Dallas is home in Silver Springs. He is on a much-needed break from being an adventure seeking mountain climber and is looking forward to being with his family for the Christmas season. When he arrives home, he finds Emery Bliss, his boyhood crush standing right in his mother’s kitchen. What could she possibly be doing staying in his home?

Dallas vows to protect and defend Emery after hearing her story. What she needs is a champion in her corner. Can Dallas help her and keep his feelings aside?

This was such a fabulous small-town Christmas story. I loved the characters and all the supporting characters and got immersed into the story right from the beginning. Even though this is the seventh book in the series, I had no problem reading it as a stand a lone novel. I do look forward to going back and reading the whole series. Thank you so much to the author  Brenda Novak, Harelquin Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was fabulous! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.

It was a shocking experience that jump-started Brenda Novak's career as a bestselling author--she caught her day-care provider drugging her children with cough syrup to get them to sleep all day. That was when Brenda decided she needed to quit her job as a loan officer and help make a living from home.

"When I first got the idea to become a novelist, it took me five years to teach myself the craft and finish my first book," Brenda says. But she sold that book, and the rest is history. Her novels have made the New York Times and USA Today bestseller lists and won many awards, including eight Rita nominations, the Book Buyer's Best, the Book Seller's Best, the Silver Bullet and the National Reader's Choice Award.

Brenda and her husband, Ted, live in Sacramento and are proud parents of five children--three girls and two boys. When she's not spending time with her family or writing, Brenda is usually raising funds for diabetes research (her youngest son has this disease). So far, Brenda has raised $2.6 million!
