My rating: 5 of 5 stars

In this beautifully written second novel in the Hillwilla series we revisit Beatrice who lives on a llama farm in rural West Virginia along with her young charge Clara an abused young girl who comes to live with Beatrice.

Beatrice is settling in and is feeling more comfortable in her mothering role with Clara. She is also in a tumultuous relationship with Tanner who lives in a world so foreign to Beatrice, yet she feels something for him, but is it love?

Clara is growing up and attending a new school. She is finally making friends and is getting more comfortable living with Beatrice. Her mother is on her second divorce, looking once again for Mr. Right and her father is back in the picture along with a new fiancé and a baby on the way.

This story is a story of bonds, friendships, love and family. I loved the continuing story of Beatrice and Clara along with all the supporting characters. We see new friends blend into the story as well as new developments with past characters. It’s such a blend of a dysfunctional family, but also a new family dynamic. I got so wrapped up in the story I couldn’t stop. I look forward to the third book in the series to visit all the characters again. Thank you so much to Melanie Forde, for an advance copy of the book to read and review. It was brilliantly written and I thoroughly enjoyed every page.

  1. Thanks so much for sharing your insights with your followers and for "getting" Beatrice, a complicated character. Delighted she and Clara resonated with you.
