The First Love - Book Review

Carly is back in Lake Bittersweet to handle her late father’s estate. Her father, Steven, a famous rock star owned and operated a music club, much to the backlash from the small community and now Carly must dig through the stack of paperwork and unpaid bills, trying to figure out what to do with the club. She has fond memories of summers spent in Lake Bittersweet along with her best friends, until that last summer when her heart got shattered. She vowed never to fall in love again. Everything turns sideways though when she runs into her heart-breaking boyfriend of long-ago Thomas, who is now the Fire Chief who has shut down her late father’s club due to fire regulations. Can Carly and Thomas find their way back together again or will secrets from long ago tear them apart once more?

JenniferBernard takes us to a place of friendship, memories and a long-ago love. The novel is brilliantly written with snippets of the past woven into the story which takes place now that Carly and Thomas are grown adults. I loved getting to know the stories and the history of the main characters, and a glimpse into the lives of her friends from long ago who come to her aid in her time of need. A beautiful novel that I was so generously gifted by the author Jennifer Bernard and Ellewoodspr in exchange for my unbiased opinion. A perfect summer read!

Jennifer Bernard is a USA Today bestselling author of contemporary romance. Her books have been called “an irresistible reading experience” full of “quick wit and sizzling love scenes.” A graduate of Harvard and former news promo producer, she left big city life in Los Angeles for true love in Alaska, where she now lives with her husband and stepdaughters. She still hasn’t adjusted to the cold, so most often she can be found cuddling with her laptop and a cup of tea.
