A Sheriff's Star by Makenna Lee
Tess Harper and her four-year-old daughter Hannah are living temporarily in Oak Hollow Texas while they wait to move to Houston for a surgery Hannah desperately needs. Hannah is a special needs child with Down’s Syndrome and needs heart surgery. Tess and Hanna are on their own, and she is feeling the pressure of the upcoming surgery. Her one and only priority is Hannah. She does not have time for relationships, but when she meets her handsome landlord, she just may have to leave some room in her heart for one more.
Anson Curry is the local police chief, and he thinks his life is just fine until he meets his new tenant, Tess Harper and her adorable daughter. When Tess’s job at the local museum prompts her to call on his grandmother for local stories, he starts to see that his life is missing one thing. Love.
This is just the sweetest love story set in a small town. All the characters are so beautifully written, and you just can not help but fall in love with Hannah. I loved how the emphasis on the story was on a special needs child and what it takes to care for her and how it can be all consuming but also such a gift. The fears, frets and joys are so well written, it really helps the reader gain so much insight into how a parent feels. This story touched such a special place in my heart and I would love to thank the author Makenna Lee, Harlequin Publishing and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the book to review. It was so heartwarming! All opinions expressed for this review are unbiased and entirely my own.
Author Bio: Makenna Lee is an award-winning romance author living in the Texas Hill Country with her real-life hero and their two children. Her oldest son has Down syndrome and taught her to appreciate the little things, and he inspired one of her novels. As a child, she played in the woods, looked for fairies under toadstools, and daydreamed. Her writing journey began when she mentioned all her story ideas, and her husband asked why she wasn’t writing them down. The next day she bought a laptop, started her first book, and knew she’d found her passion. Now, Makenna is often drinking coffee while writing, reading, or plotting a new story. Her wish is to write books that touch your heart, making you feel, think, and dream. She enjoys renaissance festivals, nature photography, studying herbal medicine, and usually listens to Celtic music while writing. She writes for Harlequin and Entangled Publishing and believes everyone deserves a happy ending.
